Fault Finding
Fibre optic cables can be damaged by excavations, trenching, power pole installations, vermin and ground movement. When it does break, the most difficult task can be to find the location of the break. This involves testing from each end of the fibre cable with an OTDR. Once an approximate location is determined, you can dig down to the conduit using a hydrovac (water blasting and suction). You can then freeze the cable using a special device. This shows up on the OTDR test as a loss in the cable and is used as a reference to then measure to the exact location
